Key Cybersecurity Terms

Our glossary of software threat exposure management terms offers concise definitions of the evolving language of cybersecurity.

Non-CVE / Business Logic Vulnerabilities

Non-CVE vulnerabilities and business-logic flaws are security weaknesses that do not correspond to a publicly cataloged CVE, because they arise from how an application’s specific workflows, permissions, or processes are designed rather than from a known software defect. Examples include broken workflow assumptions, flawed authorization logic, or process steps that can be skipped or reordered to produce an unintended and exploitable outcome.

Because business-logic flaws are unique to how each application is built, they cannot be found by tools that only test against known vulnerability signatures or CVE databases; they require testing that reasons about the application’s actual logic and intended use.

Ridge Security non-CVE and business-logic testing support: It tests for business-logic flaws and non-CVE risk alongside its CVE-centric, breadth-first testing, providing one offensive security outcome across both known-vulnerability and business-logic risk.
